The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University face off in their annual Bedlam game Saturday, Dec. 3. Both teams will honor their state’s Army National Guard by wearing the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s Thunderbird emblem on their helmets.
About 3,000 Oklahoma guardsmen have been deployed downrange since this summer and have beared a heavy toll. Between July 29th and November 1st, the 45th has lost 14 of their men and a woman. The troops aren’t expected to return home from Afghanistan until March 2012.
Even though there may be a war on the football field this weekend, the players, fans, and people of Oklahoma surely won’t forget their men and women fighting the real war overseas.
