The t-shirt, a classic military fashion icon, turns 100


Turns out, the everyday American fashion staple came from the minds of America’s best and brightest.

The U.S. Navy issued its first t-shirt in 1913 as an undershirt for sailors to wear with their uniforms.

The Army followed suit during World War II, to help keep soldiers cool(er) in the sweltering Pacific theater.

In honor of its 100th birthday, t-shirt company Custom Ink is selling a military-themed shirt and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which supports wounded service members recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
