If you’re a sergeant first class angling for a promotion, you could be subject to the Army’s most extensive Qualitative Service Program screening yet at this October’s promotion boards. Soldiers already in promotable status or in the process of retiring will be exempt.
And in happier news, another soldier from the infamous Battle of Kamdesh will receive the Medal of Honor at the White House Aug. 26. President Barack Obama will honor Staff Sgt. Ty M. Carter with the military’s highest award for valor, for heroism during an Oct. 3, 2009 battle at remote Combat Outpost Keating in Afghanistan. Carter will be the second 3-61 CAV trooper from the battle to receive the Medal of Honor, following Staff Sgt. Clint Romesha’s award in February.
