[HTML1] FOX’s Army life comedy ‘Enlisted’ premieres next week, and the producers are already reading viewers’ minds. Yes, it’s full of mistakes, from uniform wear to grooming to one big armored vehicle screw-up. But, to make up for the oversight, the show is holding a “Spot Our Errors” contest. If you watch the premier Jan. 10 at 9:30 pm/8:30 central, take notes on the SNAFUs and send them in, you’ll get a nifty Fort McGee challenge coin. Nobody is more meticulous about equipment and appearance than a service member, and when the trailer hit the internet earlier this year, the fury was palpable.…

Army Times managing editor Richard Sandza appeared on HuffPost Live last night to discuss his front-page report on child abuse in the Army. His research found 30,000 cases of abuse in recent years, including 118 deaths. Further, there was a 28% increase in cases between 2008 and 2011. On this week’s cover, an investigation by Army Times managing editor Richard Sandza found 30,000 cases of child abuse, including 118 deaths, in recent years. Additionally, the rates of abuse increased by nearly 30 percent between 2008 and 2011. How has this been allowed to continue? How have so many abusers ended up in the military? See what experts and leaders had to say about the shocking epidemic. If you’re a sergeant first class angling for a promotion, you could be subject to the Army’s most extensive Qualitative Service Program screening yet at this October’s promotion boards.  Soldiers already in…

Following last week’s end of testimony, both sides Pfc. Bradley Manning court-martial were scheduled to deliver their closing arguments at Fort Meade, Md. today. Before the arguments can begin, the judge presiding over the case must rule on the defense’s motion to acquit Manning of five counts of theft on his list of nearly two dozen charges. His defense has request multiple times since his indictment to drop the charge of aiding the enemy, but so far Manning still faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The charges stem from a 2009 leak of hundreds of thousands of…

Did you know that there are almost 60 symbols to choose from for a Veterans Affairs headstone? This week, the list got longer, with the addition of Mjölnir, otherwise known as the Hammer of Thor. That’s right. Heathens, followers of the ancient Nordic religions of Ásatrú and Odinism, can now display their own religious emblem on veteran headstones. The Open Halls Project, an organization for Heathens in the military community, spent two years commissioning the Department of Veterans to get the hammer approved, according to a VA blog. If you’re a follower of Odinism, would you get it on your headstone? And if…

On this week’s cover, the Army is looking into shaking things up in Korea. Rather than individual soldiers deploying for a year at a time, a new plan would send complete combat units for nine-month tours. Leaders say this system would improve readiness by keeping trained units together, instead of breaking them up to send a single soldier to Korea. Also on the cover, the Army admits that many war records from the Global War on Terror have been misplaced. The statement comes following a ProPublica and Seattle Times report alleging that thousands of battlefield assessments and other records from…
