Since the first military burial on May 13, 1864, Arlington National Cemetery has become the final resting place for more than 400,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and their families. Those who on Sept. 11, 2001, died only a few hundred yards away at the Pentagon are buried here, as are the Challenger astronauts. Fifteen thousand soldiers from the Civil War — Union and Confederate — rest in Section 27 and Section 13, known as the Field of the Dead. Four thousand freed slaves, many identified only as “Citizen,” and two presidents also are buried at Arlington. Section 60 is the…

[HTML1] Retired Staff Sgt. Travis Mills is a quadruple amputee who was critically injured by an IED while out on patrol during his third tour in Afghanistan. On Friday, he jumped out of a freakin’ airplane at 13,000 freakin’ feet while attached to a member of the Golden Knights parachute team. The Army documented the entire event in the skies above Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla.,  and Mills is just fun to watch. When the plane is climbing to 6,000 feet, the cameraman inquires how Mills is feeling. Mills, with a huge grin on his face, says he’s ready to…

On Sunday night, Carter and his wife, Shannon, were seated in the front row at the Miss America competition in Atlantic City, N.J. During the ceremony, Carter was recognized with a standing ovation, and he was able to cheer on fellow soldier Theresa Vail, a Kansas National Guard sergeant…

On this week’s cover, an investigation by Army Times managing editor Richard Sandza found 30,000 cases of child abuse, including 118 deaths, in recent years. Additionally, the rates of abuse increased by nearly 30 percent between 2008 and 2011. How has this been allowed to continue? How have so many abusers ended up in the military? See what experts and leaders had to say about the shocking epidemic. If you’re a sergeant first class angling for a promotion, you could be subject to the Army’s most extensive Qualitative Service Program screening yet at this October’s promotion boards.  Soldiers already in…
