Spotted on the web: Urban Outfitters military-inspired clothing includes a vest with a 3rd Ranger Battalion scroll over the top left-breast pocket. Some in the military community were upset about it, and eventually Urban Outfitters removed the item from their website, although when you click on the original link the site says the vest is “sold out.” A screenshot of the original vest appears above. Other military themed clothing remains on the website, including jean jackets with Army and Air Force ranks, although other items with unit patches seemed to have been removed. What do you think? Was the vest…

Army Times managing editor Richard Sandza appeared on HuffPost Live last night to discuss his front-page report on child abuse in the Army. His research found 30,000 cases of abuse in recent years, including 118 deaths. Further, there was a 28% increase in cases between 2008 and 2011. Click here to see what Richard and experts had to say about the trend.

On this week’s cover, the Army is offering huge perks to soldiers looking to go spec ops. Thousands from every MOS are needed to fill jobs, and the payoff includes huge cash bonuses and faster promotions. Additionally, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment has opened positions to women and is actively trying to get the word out. It doesn’t look like the Army will be tossing out the tape test any time soon, but they closing some loopholes that have allowed soldiers to cheat the system. Soldiers who bust tape must be enrolled in the Army Body Composition Program within…

Turns out, the everyday American fashion staple came from the minds of America’s best and brightest. The U.S. Navy issued its first t-shirt in 1913 as an undershirt for sailors to wear with their uniforms. The Army followed suit during World War II, to help keep soldiers cool(er) in the sweltering Pacific theater. In honor of its 100th birthday, t-shirt company Custom Ink is selling a military-themed shirt and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, which supports wounded service members recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Check out the site to pick up…

On this week’s cover, more details are emerging on the coming regional alignment and what that will mean for future deployments. In FY2014, about 60,000 soldiers will be sent to five regions throughout the world to carry about a variety of missions, as well as any problems that arise in those areas. Units include the 1st Cavalry Division, 25th Infantry Division, 1st Armored Division and two additional brigade combat teams. As the alignment unfolds,  thousands more soldiers will be assigned  to even more global activities. In a throwback to a bygone era, the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii is bringing…

In the words of reporter Joe Gould, this seems like the type of the show that the Army would want to have zero involvement with, and for good reason. For instance, check out the luxurious locks on these three. “Enlisted,”  a sitcom from “Cougar Town” co-creator Kevin Biegel, is based on three brothers in the same squad at a small post in northern Florida. There are a couple things wrong with that sentence. Anyway, the premise is that oldest brother (pictured in the middle) Sgt. Pete Waits is sent home from Afghanistan after he sucker punches a superior officer (while…
